Desktop PCs may have fallen out of fashion, but there is still demand for them in the workplace as Lenovo is demonstrating with an updated portfolio that includes a new small form factor system and a business-focused all-in-one.
The new desktops from Lenovo comprise the ThinkCentre M83 compact desktop, ThinkCentre E63z all-in-one, and the AMD-based Lenovo E50-05 aimed at small to medium businesses (SMBs).
"Lenovo remains focused on expanding and improving its existing desktop product lines to power businesses of all sizes," said Ouyang Jun, Lenovo vice president for desktop and visuals.
Available from this month, the ThinkCentre M83 is described as a full featured micro desktop to take productivity and efficiency to the next level for large enterprises.
More compact than the existing tower and small form factor M83 models, the ThinkCentre M83 ‘tiny' edition is nevertheless offered with a choice of Intel fourth-generation Core processors and can drive up to three monitors.
It also supports a choice of hard drive, solid state drive or solid state hybrid drive storage options. Prices start at $599 (£371) and include Lenovo's Smart USB Protection, which allows IT managers to control user access to USB ports.
Meanwhile, the ThinkCentre E63z has been given an update with Intel fourth-generation Core i3 processors.
The all-in-one system boasts a 19.5in display with optional 10-point multi-touch support and is just 37.5mm thick. It is set to be available from December starting at $699 (£433).
The Lenovo E50-05 is described as an affordable desktop system ideal for SMB customers. It is based on AMD's Kabini platform, which combines all the standard motherboard chipset functions into a single chip along with the processor to cut costs.
This enables pricing to start as low as $199 (£123) when the system starts shipping in December, although Lenovo has yet to detail the exact hardware specifications that customers can expect for this price.
