Metascan Online for Chrome 1.2.26

Metascan Online for Chrome is a Chrome browser extension which can scan downloads for malware with 40+ commercial antivirus engines: Bitdefender, Kaspersky, F-Secure, Avira, ESET, AVG and more.
If you think that sounds like VirusTotal, you're right, it's exactly the same idea, only using OPSWAT's "Metascan Online" service instead.
Setup isn't entirely straightforward. You can't just install the extension and go; you have to create an OPSWAT Portal account, verify it, log in, view your API key in one section of the site and paste it into a box somewhere else. None of this is even slightly difficult - it'll all be finished in less than 5 minutes, probably - but it's still more complex than similar VirusTotal add-ons.
Once that's all done, though, life becomes much easier. Downloads are scanned automatically by default, so just click a file link, it's uploaded to Metscan Online, and a detailed report tells you which of the antivirus engines - if any - detected it as a threat.
Chrome will also download the file to your system at the same time, so this isn't as intrusive as it sounds. You're free to scan or inspect the file with your own security software, even run it as usual, and just check Metascan Online's verdict later.
Still, it's possible to turn off this automatic scanning by clicking the "M" icon next to the address bar and clearing the "Scan all downloads" box. You can then scan individual files as required by right-clicking a link and selecting "Scan file with Metascan Online".
Please note, Metascan Online's free API key limits you to scanning 1000 previously seen files per hour and scan up to 25 new or unknown files per hour. That should be fine for most people, but if you're using the system to check lots of small, brand new files, it's possible that you might run into problems.
