Lesser known smartphone maker Kazam has announced its 5.15mm Tornado 348 as the world's thinnest smartphone. See alsobest smartphones of 2014.
At 5.15mm, the Kazam Tornado 348 is taking on the big guns of the smartphone world including Apple, Samsung, Sony and Huawei. The device is thinner than the iPhone 6, Galaxy Alpha,Xperia Z Ultra and Ascend P6 which are 6.9, 6.7, 6.5 and 6.18mm respectively.
In the words of the UK-based firm, the handset is a 'marvel of mobile engineering' which employs an aluminium-magnesium alloy uni-body and a Gorilla Glass screen. The Tornado 348 weighs just 95.5g.
Michael Coombes, CEO of Kazam, said: "We are delighted to be unveiling World's slimmest smartphone. Kazam remains focused on innovating in areas often overlooked, the Kazam Tornado 348 combines superior design with heavy hitting features, all backed up by the Kazam proposition, adding real value for consumers."
Although the phone's website says it has Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and a 4.5in screen, it in fact has version 4.4 KitKat and a 4.8in display. The AMOLED screen uses a resolution of 720 x 1280 which Kazam says is 'hard to beat' on clarity.
Other specs include a 1.7GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6592 processor, 16GB of storage, microSD card slot, an 8Mp rear camera and a 5Mp rear camera.
The Kazam Tornado 348 will be available in black and white colour options from mid-November in Europe at the cool price of £249.
Jeffrey Ju, general manager of wireless communication at MediaTek, said "Kazam is a prime example of the changing face of mobile technology – hitting the market with the slimmest mobile phone packed with our advanced, high performance MT6592 True Octa-core SoC."
