Sometimes it's the enterprise sector that gets access to all the coolest toys. Certainly that argument could be made today with OCZ's introduction of its wicked fast Z-Drive 6000 NVMe solid state drive (SSD). OCZ unveiled the new drive at the Intel Developer Forum(IDF) in San Francisco telling attendees that it will provide industry-leading IOPS per dollar.
The Z-Drive 6000 is a native PCIe 3.0 NVMe 1.1 solution in the popular (and easy-to-deploy) 2.5-inch form factor. In addition to offering customers high performance (reported to hit 3GB/s), it also features a hot pluggable SFF-8639 connector for superior deployment-efficiency and serviceability, OCZ says.

Enterprise customers needn't worry about the Z-Drive 6000 being a feature-poor storage solution -- OCZ didn't trade functionality for speed, it included both. That includes things like internal RAID to protect all flash data, built-in data protection against power loss, consistent low latency operation, and of course encryption.
According to the drive's spec sheet on display at IDF, the Z-Drive 6000 is powered by a PMC Sierra Princeton controller combined with OCZ's own proprietary firmware. It consumes just 25W with 20W and 15W low power mode options available, and will come in 800GB, 1.6TB, and 3.2TB capacities.
OCZ says it will begin sampling the Z-Drive 6000 to select customers for testing and validation before the end of the month.
